Tribute to Jacky Ickx

F.A.Q.

This FAQ has been created in response to the questions that are most frequently asked. It will allow these informations to be disseminated to as many people as possible. If you feel that other questions/answers should appear below, do not hesitate to let me know.

Who was Julien Garnier, the creator of ‘Tribute to Jacky Ickx’?
And why did he create this site?
You will get the best answer to these two questions from Julien Garnier himself by listening to the radio interview that had been conducted by RTBF a few months before his death. This interview can be found on the home page of this site.

Who are you Dominique Dreneau?
Like Julien Garnier, I have no direct link with the racing world. My only connection with the world of racing is this immense passion that has gripped me since my childhood. Like Julien also, I have an immense admiration for Jacky Ickx. This one was born one day in June 1969 when I was just a very young child. The modern version of the fable “The hare and the turtle” delivered by Jacky Ickx on the occasion of his first victory at the 24 hours of Le Mans had just marked forever my mind and made it, forever, my favorite pilot.
I had the opportunity to see Jacky Ickx running on a number of occasions and particularly at Le Mans, a track which was not very far from my home (indeed, unlike Jacky Ickx and Julien Garnier, I am not Belgian… but French ). Thus, with the exception of 1969, I was present at the edge of the circuit for each of Jacky Ickx’s five other victories at Le Mans. I keep an unforgettable memory of the 1977 edition that will forever remain my most beautiful contact with motorsport.
I live in the Pyrenees and am now retired.
Julien Garnier and I got to know each other thanks to “Tribute to Jacky Ickx”, this after he created the site. We then became close friends. This friendship led Julien to ask me if I would agree to ensure the sustainability of his site if it were to disappear…which unfortunately happened in December 2020. Since then, as I had committed myself to Julien, I am the administrator of this site.

Are you in contact with Jacky Ickx?
Yes, since 2020, I have the chance to be in contact with Jacky Ickx.
However, I only meet him very rarely. These meetings are usually part of events in which he participates. They are always an opportunity for warm and friendly exchanges.

I wish to write to Jacky Ickx, can you provide me with his address, phone number, or email address?
No, sorry! In order to respect Jacky Ickx’s privacy, I do not communicate this information under any circumstances.

I would like to have a photo signed by Jacky Ickx. How can I get it?
In this case, try to meet him at a public event he attends. When he participates in an event of this nature, and if I am aware of it, I relay the information on this site or on the dedicated Facebook group. It is useless to send me requests about getting an autograph, I do not answer this.

Is this site the official Jacky Ickx site?
In a way. Since Jacky Ickx has known this site, he is very happy and provides moral support. This site can thus be considered as an “official” site but it is in no way directly related to his person.

Is this site regularly updated?
This ‘2026 edition’ site is a total redesign of the original site which dated from 2002. For reasons of outdated computer codes, it was impossible to perform updates of the original site… hence the need to recreate this new site. This one will of course take up the almost complete content of the 2002 site… which will allow to find the 35,000 photos that constitute the different galleries !!! Given the volume of documents to be processed, they will be added gradually… which means that there will be regular updates of which I will inform you through the Facebook group (…that I invite you to join if it has not already been done). In addition, in the long term, new unpublished sections will appear which will be as many updates to the site!!!
Nevertheless, for the site to be updated, it is necessary to have new things to present, which is why I am also dependent on what is sent to me or offered. So as long as I receive informations or photos, I regularly update this website.

I have documents regarding Jacky Ickx. How to publish them on this site?
Just send them by email to the address jickxtribute@gmail.com. This email address is directed to my home address.

I have photos of Jacky Ickx that I can’t find on your site and I would like to send them to you. How scan them? What format would you like?
In general, the photos presented on this site have the following dimensions: 800 pixels wide maximum and 700 pixels high maximum. This for two reasons: limit their weight on the site and allow to make the photo visible to all.
I recommend scanning a photo at 300 or 600 dpi and then reducing the size to 800 pixels wide (700 pixels high for portrait photos). Then save the image in jpg format. For all these operations, you can use the free online application: https://www.iloveimg.com/fr
If you do not wish to see your name and/or email below the photo you are sending, specify it when sending.

Where did all these photos come from?
Many photos on this website have been scanned from books that belong to me or that I received from my friends.
Some other photos were found on the web and if they were covered by a copyright, I am referring to the concerning website (even sometimes when there is no right to copy).
The unpublished photos are my property. They were taken either by me or by friends who gave me the right to publish them.
There are also many photos (the majority) that I have received from other admirers and in this case, I mention their name under the photo with the acronym @.  As we easily understand, I couldn’t control if a copy right existed or not for these photos.
Finally, a significant amount of photos was entrusted by Jacky Ickx himself and by Catherine Blaton.

Do you have the right to publish all these documents?
First of all, Jacky Ickx authorized me to publish his image while respecting the ethics that are needed.
For most documents and photos, I have the authorization of their author(s).
For the others, I regret that it is sometimes impossible to find the author of a written or photographic document and that in this case obtaining permission to publish is not possible. I do not wish to prejudice any author whatsoever. If this were to be the case, I apologize in advance and remind you that my motivations are totally disinterested. This site is not not paying, I finance it myself, without any sponsor and without making a profit. My only goal is to maintain the international image of Jacky Ickx and to give all his admirers, everywhere in the world, the opportunity to see photos or reading texts that have only been published in Belgium, France or Europe, and some of which are no longer available due to unrenewed editions.

Thus, in any case, if people believe that I do not have the right to use their photo(s) or text(s), just send me a simple email and, if the request is justified, I will immediately remove the documents concerned.
